Meet the Team

Amy Han is the founder and Director of Creative Write-it. After completing her BA (Creative Writing) and a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing, she worked in children's book publishing, marketing, and in schools teaching circus arts. In 2011, she was invited to lead a creative writing workshop at her local library, and she has never looked back! Since opening the Creative Write-it studio in 2014, her role has been focused on developing our programs, supporting an incredible team of writing mentors, and continuing to make Creative Write-it a wonderful, inspiring place to be. Amy writes novellas, short stories, and essays that have been published in print and online. She is currently working on a novel that involves a magical bird.

Ben Pearmain has been a leading mentor at our studio since it opened in 2014. He is 100% responsible for any wacky characters that show up during workshops, and is also in charge of designing and publishing Creative Write-it books. With a BA in English and Creative Arts from Murdoch University, he has worked as an editor and proofreader, co-written scripts, and illustrated children’s books. His future best-selling novel bio will describe him as: a Pulitzer, Nobel Prize and Lotto winner. He lives on Mars.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative and Professional Writing, and has worked as a writer and editor in both Queensland and Victoria. In 2017, she was awarded a Gullkistan Residency for Creative People in Laugarvatn, Iceland, where she finished writing her first novel. She was also awarded a Lord Mayor's Young and Emerging Artists Fellowship to fund the creation of new work. Tamara's writing can be found on our blog, in literary magazines such as Into the Void Magazine, Grouch Publishing, and in the debut issue of Vantage Point, a collaborative project by Bowen Street Press and The Lifted Brow.

Izzy Woodcock is a Workshop Assistant, in our studio and online. "I have loved writing and reading stories for as long as I can remember. The sense of freedom that comes with imagining and creating something completely your own is like nothing else. I started at Creative Write-it in 2015 and since then I have been on an extraordinary journey of discovering my inner storyteller. I have published one book, am currently writing another, and also wrote this blog post! In the four years I was a student at Creative Write-it, I watched all of the Workshop Leaders teaching their groups and loved how every single team member had such a passion for writing and the English language as a whole. I feel so lucky to now be a member of the team I have looked up to for so long."

We acknowledge that we live, write, and share stories on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations, the original storytellers of our country.

We vow to use our creative power to contribute to the land that has given us the freedom to imagine, dream, listen, and write a better collective future.

We pay our deep respects to elders past, present and emerging.
