Prologue from The Child With No Stories
by Mia Sudianto

“I was on my way home, just taking the normal route, when the ground started to shake. An earthquake was the first thing that popped into my head but when I looked around everyone was walking just fine. Maybe I was imagining things, I thought, so I took a step forward. Big mistake. My legs turned to jelly and I found myself lying on the ground. And that’s the last thing I remember.”

The doctor looked at me then at the screen while I looked around the room. It wasn’t that big. It was painted light blue and there were little stuffed animals in the corner. There were two people sitting next to me. They looked familiar but I had no idea who they were.

“Um… excuse me miss,” I said to the woman sitting next to me. “Do I know you from somewhere?”

The woman burst into tears and ran out of the room. The man gave me a strange look, sad and hurt, then ran after the woman.

“Doctor, what’s wrong with me?” I asked.

“Son, you have amnesia.”
