During the holidays we caught up with Ashton Tan, Creative Write-it's latest literary star and creator of The Funniest Piece of Popcorn.

Hi Ashton, how does it feel to be a published author?

It feels great, because I like writing so when you are published, people can read your book and you get to do lots of exciting stuff, such as doing this interview, and you feel good about yourself.

Where did you get the idea for a piece of  popcorn as a character?

On my first lesson in Term 3, Ben told us to write out 20 lines of what we did on the holidays, 1-2 rhyming, 3-4 also rhyming and so on (they could also be made up). Ben picked out 3 lines to form our story, and one of mine was "that my arms were popping.", and POPPING sounded like popcorn. So it became my main character.

How did you plan such a crazy story?

To me, I do not think that it is crazy. Popcorn (his name) seems normal to me.

Do you have any plans for new stories?

I am thinking of writing part two, and I have written some short stories including Popcorn (his name) in them such as Popcorn and Propercorn as well. Part 2's title will be The Oldest Piece Of Popcorn Ever.

Can I have your autograph?

Yes.

Thanks Ashton, we look forward to reading Popcorn's next adventure!
