Young writers who have their stories published show tremendous creativity, focus and discipline - some relish the chance to show their pieces to their friends and family, while other kids are motivated by the tangible goal of completing their work by a deadline. We love providing opportunities for kids to see their work published, and hereâs how we do it:
Writ-Bits Anthology
At the start of Term 3 our young writers began reflecting on their experiences during Weird Times, and have each been hard at work during their Story Writing Clubs or Writing Mentorships creating a story, poem or comic for the 2020 edition of our annual anthology, Writ-Bits.
âWeâll soon have all the submissions, then it wonât be long until we have the finished book! School Anthologies
Creative Write-it school programs offer another fantastic way for kids to see their stories in print. Earlier in the year, Year 3 and 4 students at Xavier College saw their fantastical stories published in The Magical Adventures of Xavier College.
In Term 2, Year 6 students at Serpell Primary received their copies of Lost Worlds & Found Creatures, while Year 6s at Balwyn Primary School got to read their stories in The Wilds. This term, we ran a series of online workshops with another group of writers at Balwyn Primary Schoo, whose stories will be featured in the upcoming anthology, Weird Times. Novels and Novellas
Weâve also got two novels in production! After working closely with Workshop Leaders on their manuscripts, two of our young writers have completed their first books. Soon we will be ready to receive their debut publications from the printers.
Creative Write-it Online
Donât forget the blog! As an avid reader weâre sure youâve seen the stories we have featured here on the Creative Write-it blog, but have you seen our e-magazine Story Explorers?
Each themed issue features a selection of pieces written by kids in our weekly workshops, along with a Q&A with one of the authors. Itâs been on pause this year but Story Explorers will be back soon!
We are thrilled, as always, to finish the year with so many new titles. Each publication is a celebration of a fantastic achievement - after all, crafting a story can be hard work!
Do you have a story youâd like to see in print? Let us know and you could be one of our published authors in 2021! â Weekly Writing Workshops Creative Write-it School Programs
