How we Work

Are your programs only suitable for advanced writers?
Our courses are suitable for all abilities. When you enrol, please include information about your child's current writing ability and attitude to writing to help us place them in the most beneficial group.

My child is in Prep this year - would they benefit from joining your workshops?
If they can write basic sentences independently, yes. We’re not bothered if their spelling isn’t perfect (many big kids don’t have perfect spelling either!), but they do need to be able to write an ‘understandable’ string of words on their own before it is worth signing them up. In the meantime, lots of writing practice and reading at home will certainly prepare them well for next year – and we’d love to see them then!

How do you group the children together?
We group children by age and writing ability as much as possible. When you enrol, please include information about your child's current writing ability and attitude to writing to help us place them in the most beneficial group.

Do you give homework?
Unless you have specifically requested extra homework tasks, we will usually only request that writers complete any unfinished work so they are ready to receive feedback and move on the following week.

Are you able to help my child with persuasive writing and essays, NAPLAN preparation, scholarship exam preparation, or school homework? 
We are able to incorporate these into our Writing Mentorship program.

Is it possible for you to tutor my child at our home?
Creative Write-it programs are only offered from our studios. If you are unable to make it to our studios, our Online Mentorships may be of interest! 

I have more than one child. Can they attend at the same time?
As long as we have space and suitable groups available for them to join, yes! The studios have been designed to cater for three small groups at a time, and often more than one age group is happening at once. Please visit our online booking system to check availability and book their places. Or contact us at hello@creativewriteit.com.au.  

When do upcoming school holiday workshops become available?
Our next holiday workshops will be made available approximately 5 weeks before they start. Please join our mailing list and/or follow us on Facebook to be notified of upcoming holiday workshops. 

Do you correct the children's work?
Yes. We provide feedback on every piece of writing (including those nit-picky spelling, grammar and punctuation-related things). Although we do not grade their work, we will explain which specific areas need work to improve the quality of future writing. Over time, we feel this is a more helpful way for young writers to develop and fine-tune their skills.

What should we bring to the workshops?
For Creative Writing Clubs and Private Mentorships, we recommend writers bring along their own writing book (lined exercise book) or folder to keep their work together. 

For Creative Holiday Workshops, please bring along a water bottle, snack, and lunch for the day.

All stationery is provided, however writers are welcome to bring their own stationery if they prefer.

Is there anything I can do at home to help them get the most out of your courses?
Absolutely! Young writers need all the support and encouragement they can get. Read their writing. Read our comments. Remind and encourage them to finish any unfinished stories. Try not to correct their homework, so we can see what they have been capable of on their own. Let us know if there is anything extra or different we can do to make the process easier or more enjoyable for them (you know your child best, after all). Finally, remind them to bring their writing books, and any homework they have completed, each week - it's very hard for us to provide feedback on writing when it's been left at home!

Enrolment Process

Can we join part-way through a semester?
Yes! New and returning writers are welcome to join at any time, although joining for a full semester at a time is ideal to make the most out of our courses.
All of our studio courses are offered at a discounted Full Semester Price, and a Pro-Rata Price for shorter enrolments. Please see our online booking system for current pricing and to enrol.  

​Do you offer make-up sessions?
We are able to arrange up to 4 make-up sessions per semester. Please read our Terms & Conditions for more information.

What payment options are available?
Where possible, we prefer payment via our online booking system. This has the added advantage of confirming your or your child’s place immediately upon payment. Alternatively, payment may be made by the following methods:

⎯ Direct Deposit: Please ensure that you quote your child’s name in the description.
